AMERICAN WADO ASSOCIATION
The AWA is a new Wado organization that looks to rekindle the true spirit of Wado through the practice and training of the pre-WWII curriculum. Our Soke is a direct student of the original Wado Ryu foundation lineage. With a new surge of interest in Wado we here at PFMA have looked to our leader to continue the ways, theory and visions of the arts foundation. With this in mind the PFMA organization looked to place the right person at the head of the new American Wado Association.
There was one and only one choice in this matter, the new organization must be lead by the highest ranking actively teaching master of this branch of Wado Lineage. GM CE Carter is that person! Master Carter has been practicing Wado since the 1980's along with his many other styles. In early 2000 Master Carter was promoted to the rank of 5th Dan and the title of Renshi was given by his first Wado-ryu Instructor. In 2004 the USMA reclassified Master Carter as a 6th Dan in Wado due to his years of training, extensive knowledge of Japanese Karate and his exceptional skills of technical application. At this point we look to Master Carter as the head (Soke) of "American Wado Association" regardless of what rank he chooses to wear. Based on the traditions of Japanese Martial Arts and with respect for his lineage Master Carter has returned to one of the old systems of ranking. Rank promotions are done as long as there is material to be tested. Time and Grade promotions will not be used within the AWA.
All American Wado Association members/students will be expected to focus on the understanding of the core theory and applications of Wado regardless of Organizational or Political outline. The true Practitioner of Karate searches and trains for perfection and self-improvement, not for social or political status. Understanding the history and evolution of Japanese Martial Arts is key to understanding the views and theories of the "Way of Peace and Harmony". Only honorable dedication of time, training and effort in these principals can lead to true Wado.
